Some of you may have been aware that I was running a contest for professional drivers and owner operators through some of the truck shows we attended through the summer months. I am proud to announce that the winner was Paul davidson of W.D. Potato from Beeton, Ontario. Paul was notified of the win at the end of August and will be presented with the finished prize by the end of October. Congratulations to Paul and all of those that entered the contest.
Have a great day….
In speaking with a group of new potential entrepreneurs the other day I had wrapped up my presentation and was then asked to stay over for a few moments to talk to a few individuals interested in starting a business. Many had heard they need to register, look for potential clients, create an office etc. Since my presentation focused on the passion of the business they seemed a bit confused by what they had heard earlier. When speaking to them individually they seemed to get more excited as the procedure fell into place so I thought I would mention it again here. There is no sense setting up shop for a new business if you don’t know what you do yet! Find your passion, find your niche, then set up the business office. Many weren’t sure what they were going to do yet, but were ready to register the company. In my presentations I hand out a sheet of paper that on one side says “What do I like to do”. The other side says “What am I good at?” Fill out a similar sheet and see if there is a common thread. That may be the start of a new enterprise.
Good luck!
It always amazes me how many businesses do not grasp the importance of good customer service. People say I am always harping about customer service ,but it is one of my pet pieves about business. Many of the ones who are lacking in customer service are the larger companies. However even if you are working in a large company you can extend professional customer service by being in control of how you deal with the people you service each and every day. One of the companies that promote exceptional customer service objectives is that of the Nalco Chemical Company. I can attest to their customer service skills as I used to perform this very job. If you are interested in seeing exceptional customer service then click the link below and take notes.

I went to an art opening last night and was very impressed with the number of people in attendance. The opening was for three ladies who made pottery and do photography. All are fairly new to holding openings and have put in alot of work to make it a success and it sure was. The one thing they did well was work together and the crowd showed in huge numbers. If you are contemplating putting on a show or event and wonder how you will get people out, try working with someone of similar interest and double your numbers. I have seen this work successfully in tradeshows, corporate sponsored events, and art openings. Not only will you meet people you wouldn’t necessarily have access to, but will create relationships with other people that may last forever.
Have you found yourself to be the leader of your team even without trying? When no one comes forward as the leader you naturally fill the position, feeling like you are the only one comfortable in the spotlight. If you aren’t getting the recognition you feel you deserve for leading the group then don’t despair, take notes! That’s right, write down your accomplishments and team commitments and store them for future use. Many times managers don’t notice who is always stepping up to the plate or even worse start relying on you without asking. This list you create will not only show yourself how valuable you are, but can be very helpful in the performance appraisal stage each year. If your company still doesn’t recognize your importance then at least you will have the information for your updated resume.
Good Luck!
